Northport Adoptable Pet Of The Week: Liberty

NORTHPORT, NY — Liberty, a 3-year-old male silver tabby cat, is the Northport Cat Rescue Association's featured pet.

The green-eyed Liberty is looking for his new home after his mother became ill and unable to properly care for him. The feline was fending for himself for awhile before the cat rescue took him in. He was frightened at first, according to volunteer Lora Wild.

"Liberty was placed in foster care, and with love and patience, his adorable personality finally started to shine," she told Patch. "He is kind and loving and wants to just be by his humans and will even curl up and sleep with you. Knowing that he had been somewhat alone for quite some time, it seems he is finally remembering what companionship feels like."

Liberty is a "special boy," according to the foster mom he was with. When one fosters cats, they all leave a different mark on the parent.

"Well Liberty touched our foster very much," Wild said. "She watched this timid little guy want affection so terribly, and to watch him slowly come out of his shell was amazing. Not a mean bone in his body, he even showed interest in wanting to be friends with the other cats he was fostered with. He was finally ready to be put up for adoption and find a home of his own."

Liberty was placed in the rescue's habitat at Doggie Dons in Northport. His foster mom bid him a heartfelt farewell, but she knew it was best for him in order to help him find a home, Wild said.

"He is shy and probably a little bit confused and because of that, sometimes visitors may overlook cats like Liberty, but we promise if, given the chance, he will show you how wonderful he is," Wild said. "Our wish is for Liberty to be 'home for the holidays' with his very own family, and never have to be alone again."

Liberty is neutered, has all his shots, is litter box-trained, micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative.
