NORTHPORT, NY — Ollie, a 5-year-old male orange tabby, was named the Northport Cat Rescue Association's Cat of the Week.

Ollie was found in the Northport area begging for scraps after his family moved and left him behind, said Lora Wild, a volunteer at the rescue. As the weather grew colder and a snowstorm was approaching, someone contacted the cat rescue, which was able to pick him up and get him to safety.

"Ollie is a special cat with a big heart, which makes his one disability kind of ironic," Wild said.

Ollie has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Although a long-term issue, this can be controlled with a small daily dose of medicine and check-in with a veterinarian once or twice a year, according to Wild. He can live a normal long, happy, and health life if he's given the chance.

"Ollie is a sweet and mellow boy," Wild said. "Although he does not care to be picked up, he absolutely loves to be pet and will come to you with head butts and blink his eyes slowly as you pet him. He is being fostered in a home with animals and loves to play with other cats and is unphased by dogs big or small. He wants to be part of the family and is often seen staring through the door into the rest of the home just wanting to be involved in everyday life. This boy was clearly once part of a family, and his sad eyes tell a story of loss. We hope to find him a patient and loving home that will give him all the kindness he needs. Love heals so much with these beautiful creatures."
