Northport Boys And Girls Lacrosse Both Win Suffolk Titles
Both Tiger teams won on the same field on the same day, securing two county championships for Northport High School.
NORTHPORT, NY — There's magic in the air at Northport High School. Both the boys and girls lacrosse teams conquered the Suffolk Class A divisions, earning championships on the same day on the same field.
The boys team defeated Ward Melville 8-6, while the girls triumphed over Smithtown East to win a 9-8 barnburner, according to the school district.

On the boys side, the third-seeded Tigers ended fourth-seeded Ward Melville's dynasty, as the school was looking for its fifth consecutive Suffolk Class A title, according to Newsday. Instead, it was Northport ending a 19-year Suffolk championship drought. The Tigers are set to play Syosset at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at East Islip High for the Long Island title.
The girls team, looking to defend their county title, overcame a four-goal deficit in the first half to inch past Smithtown East, according to Newsday. The girls team will do battle against Massapequa at 10 a.m. Saturday in Bethpage as it looks for its second straight Long Island Class A title.
