Northport Cafe Adds A Book Swap To Its Menu

Customers can now read a book while enjoying a cup of coffee.

Attention book lovers: A cafe in Northport is letting you read books for free while enjoying coffee and homemade pastries.

Caffe Portofino, located on Main Street, has a new bookshelf and a new policy: “Take a Book, Leave a Book.”

Northport resident Julianne Starzee donated the shelf and stocked it with books as part of her Girl Scout Gold Award project that looks to promote reading in the community.

“I love reading, and I wanted to make it easier for people to find books that they can enjoy, just like me,” Starzee said. “Caffe Portofino is a very popular coffee shop in Northport, and I immediately thought of them as the perfect place for my bookshelf. I hope visitors to Caffe Portofino will pick up a book that they can’t put down.”

Caffe Portofino owner Rosemary Lombardi says the bookshelf “adds to the ambiance of the cafe," which she says "is a relaxing atmosphere where you can enjoy a good cup of coffee and now enjoy a wonderful book.”
