NORTHPORT, NY — A Northport Chamber of Commerce member introduced a plan to help feed those in need while saving local restaurants struggling due to the coronavirus.

Dr. Barbara Bolen, a member of the chamber, as well as a friend of hers, launched "The Takeout Project." Residents are asked to purchase restaurant gift cards which will then be distributed by local food pantries, including the Ecumenical Lay Council Food Pantry in Northport and the St. Anthony of Padua's St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry in East Northport.

Community members were also urged to purchase "Northport Dollars" to be given to those in need. This would help local merchants and restaurants during the pandemic.
