Northport-East Northport School District Addresses Budget Failure
The district's 2021-22 budget proposal was voted down by residents on Tuesday.

NORTHPORT, NY — The Northport-East Northport Union Free School District's proposed 2021-22 budget was voted down by residents at the polls on Tuesday. The school district and board of education will meet to discuss appropriate next steps following the proposed budget's failure, Superintendent Robert Banzer told the community in a letter.
The proposal received 2,069 "no" votes to 1,902 "yes" votes. The budget would have been $174,704,748, up 1.13 percent from last year's, while the tax levy would have been $150,843,867, up 0.75 percent.
A special board of education meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. May 27, and additional information about the budget will be shared in the coming days and weeks, Banzer said.

Incumbent Victoria Buscareno was re-elected with 2,126 votes. Carol Taylor was also elected with 2,079 votes.
"Congratulations to both Ms. Buscareno and Ms. Taylor on their wins!" Banzer said.

Warner Frey received 1,356 votes, while Tammie Topel received 1,534 votes.
