Northport High School Senior Wins $15K Scholarship

NORTHPORT, NY — James Connor, a Northport High School senior science research student, is the winner of a big scholarship, according to the school district.

James competed at the Regeneron International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2021 this month and was awarded the Chief of Naval Research Scholarship Award of $15,000.

James was chosen to compete at ISEF after he earned top prize at the Long Island Science & Engineering Fair earlier this spring. His research presentation titled, "Attributing State-backed Information Operations on Twitter through Machine Learning," earned 4th place internationally in the Software Systems category sponsored by Microsoft.

Each year, organizations representing government, industry and education, across a wide variety of scientific disciplines, affiliate with Regeneron ISEF as Special Award Sponsors.

The Naval Science Awards Program is a U.S. Navy and Marine Corps program that encourages United States students to develop and retain an interest in science and engineering. James plans to attend Georgia Tech this fall to continue his studies in computer science and engineering.
