Northport HS Varsity Girls Lacrosse Team Showcases Rings

The squad won the 2018-19 New York State Girls Lacrosse Championship. Check out their well-earned hardware.

NORTHPORT, NY — The Northport High School varsity girls lacrosse team received and proudly flashed their New York State Championship rings on Tuesday, the district stated via press release.

Upon receiving their rings, the student athletes reminisced with their teammates over a “dominating” season. Having earned second place with a record of 21-1 in their regular season, the team qualified for playoffs.

In the opening round, they beat Commack 15-5 and advanced to the semifinals, where they beat Ward Melville 13-7 to qualify for the Suffolk County Class Championship.

The Tigers won 13-7 against Middle Country to earn the county title and proceeded to beat Farmingdale 15-4 for the Long Island Championship. High on the heels of those victories, the team dominated over Pittsford in the New York State semifinals and defeated Baldwinsville 10-8 to win their first State Championship since 2011.

"They dominated the competition," Mark Dantuono, the district’s director of heath, physical education and athletics, said.

The district congratulates all the players, as well as head coach Carol Rainson-Rose, assistant coach Alton Rose, and volunteer assistant coaches Alexis Curcio and Cortney Fortunato.
