Northport HS's 3 National Merit Students Advance To Finals

NORTHPORT, NY — Northport High School's three National Merit semifinalists are all heading to the finals, according to the school district. Seniors Camden Burk, Tara D’Amico and Rudolph Mastrocinque each survived an additional round of qualifications and now have an opportunity to be named National Merit Scholars.

As finalists, each student received a Certificate of Merit. Approximately 7,500 of the 15,000 finalists will be chosen between March and June as scholarship winners.

"Attaining the honor of being named a National Merit Finalist is a reflection of many years of hard work on the part of these students and a title which they will be able to carry proudly throughout their lives," Principal Daniel Danbusky said via news release. "Our school community is proud of their accomplishments and a great example in showing what may be possible when students are willing to work hard and challenge themselves to be their very best."

The National Merit Scholarship Program, established in 1955, is a long-standing academic competition for recognition and scholarships. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which serves as an initial screen of nearly 1.5 million entrants each year.
