Northport PD Blotter: Delivery Driver Potentially Saves Pizzeria
The driver alerted police to smoke inside the pizzeria, which was the result of food being left in an active oven, police say.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Feb. 22 through Feb. 28.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.
- Police found a loose dog in the middle of the road on Dolphin Lane on Feb. 22 and reunited it with its owner.
- A man reported to police that his neighbor used a snowblower and piled snow up against his building. The man said he asked the neighbor to remove the snow, as he's concerned that it may seep into his finished basement when it melts. The man filed the complaint for informational purposes on Feb. 22.
- Giunta's Meat Farm on Feb. 23 reported that one of its employees was handed possible drug paraphernalia. The property was vouchered to be destroyed.
- A woman's car ran out of gas at an intersection at Church Street on Feb. 24. Police helped her push the car to the side of the road.
- Someone on Feb. 25 reported they received a New York state unemployment insurance application in the mail that they did not request. Police suggested the person contact the state and advise them they did not make the request. They were also advised to contact their banks and credit bureaus to make sure no one opens any accounts under their identity.
- A delivery driver at 11:18 p.m. Feb. 25 flagged down an officer to let them know La Porta Pizza had smoke in it. The driver had the key, allowing the officer into the building. The oven had been left on with food inside it, police said. The food was removed and the oven turned off. The Northport fire chief responded. A business card and note were left for the owner to contact the police the next day.
- A woman went to headquarters on Feb. 26 to report an identity theft resulting from an attempt to gain unemployment benefits using her personal information. Police reviewed the paperwork and believe New York state already caught the attempt. Police provided the woman with additional paperwork to help further protect herself.
- A woman on Feb. 26 said she heard from Chase that they received an address change she didn't make and that her address on file was changed to one in Brooklyn. The woman said she already spoke with Life Lock and Chase and was advised to check her other accounts and personal identity items to make sure they also weren't compromised. The woman did not sustain any monetary loss at the time of her report, police said.
- An intoxicated woman hit her head against the wall, causing a contusion, on Feb. 27. She was brought to Huntington Hospital.
