Northport PD Blotter: Person Charged After Damaging Police Car
ALSO: Bagels thrown onto man's lawn; lost dog rescued by good Samaritan, police say.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from June 21 through June 27.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- Chase Catapano, 26, of Port Jefferson, damaged a marked Northport police vehicle on Woodbine Avenue around 4:45 p.m. June 25, police said. Officers were interviewing a complainant when they were radioed that someone was damaging a police car, police said. The officers left the building and found the vehicle's passenger side window and passenger side mirror sustained damage worth more than $1,500, police said. Catapano drove off westbound on Fort Salonga Road in a Toyota Prius, police said. The Prius was found in Huntington, and Catapano was found at a florist, police said. Catapano was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree criminal contempt and second-degree criminal mischief.
Incidents
- A woman reported damage to her 2016 Toyota Corolla on School Street on June 21. She said she parked her car the night before, and when she returned to her car, she found the passenger side back window cracked. The woman believes nothing was stolen from the car. Police noticed freshly cut grass next to the car, as well as numerous rocks on the ground, so police believe a flying object from the lawnmower may have caused the damage.
- Ducklings were reportedly trapped inside a storm drain on Fort Salonga Road on June 21. Police helped rescue the ducklings and brought them back to their mother. The ducklings and their mom were escorted across the street and to safety.
- A man was found laying on the side of the road near Northport Library around 8:30 p.m. June 22. He had a cut above his eye. Northport Rescue brought him to Huntington Hospital.
- A large group of kids were on Steers Beach having a party around 10:45 p.m. June 22. When police approached the group, the kids all dispersed, leaving behind some of their belongings. Police recovered all the personal belongings and contacted the kids, who responded with their parents to pick up their belongings from police headquarters. Police also found a folding table and a keg.
- A woman fainted at Whales Tale on June 23. Northport Rescue brought her to Huntington Hospital.
- Police responded to Village Park for a report of fireworks on June 23. A Northport Highway employee was cleaning a lot of confetti off the lawn. A group was doing a prom photoshoot and had set off a confetti bomb for a picture. The group agreed to help clean the confetti.
- A woman suffered a potential stroke while at Whales Tale on June 23. Northport Rescue brought her to Huntington Hospital.
- Multiple bagels were thrown onto a man's property on Sailfish Place on June 23. The man told police that a person or people threw bagels on his front lawn and drove away in a black
Chevy pickup truck. He said bagels were also thrown onto his lawn around 5 p.m. June 19. - A vehicle was struck by another vehicle before the driver left the scene on Woodbine Avenue on June 24. A witness described the offending car as a dark grey four-door sedan.
- A man was hit by a vehicle on Main Street on June 24. Northport Rescue brought him to Huntington Hospital.
- A woman reported possible bank fraud on June 25. She said she received checks in her name from TD Bank, despite never requesting them. She contacted TD Bank, which told her the account was opened online and had a balance of $0. TD Bank wasn't able to identify who opened the account, but it was able to close it. The woman has not suffered any financial loss at the time of the report.
- A trespasser was reported at Northport Fish & Lobster, but the person was no longer there when police arrived. The incident happened June 26.
- An unconscious man was reported at Cow Harbor Park on June 26. The man was awake but very lethargic when police arrived. Northport Rescue brought him to Huntington Hospital.
- A man fainted at Whales Tale on June 26. He was conscious when police arrived. He declined any further medical attention.
- A woman found a small dog on June 27 and brought it to police to help find the owner. The dog was walking around Woodbine Avenue when the woman found it. The dog did not have a collar at the time, so the finder brought it to police. A picture of the dog was taken by police and posted on Instagram in an attempt to spread the word of a lost dog. The owner contacted police in regards to the Instagram post and picked up her dog.
