Northport Police Blotter: 3 Potential Identity Frauds Reported
ALSO: A woman and her landlord got into a heated argument that led to a call to the police, police say.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Feb. 8 through Feb. 14.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- A woman went to police headquarters on Feb. 8 to report identity fraud. She said that, in her place of work, she received a New York State Unemployment Benefit claim in the mail even though she never applied for one. The woman said she didn't lose any money and hasn't been advised of any unauthorized charges or withdrawals. She contacted the Department of Labor to resolve the issue, as well as putting a hold on her credit and advised the IRS Fraud Department.
- A man on Feb. 11 reported possible identity fraud. He said he received a New York State Unemployment Benefit claim in the mail even though he never applied for one. The man said he didn't lose any money and hasn't been advised of any unauthorized charges or withdrawals. The man said he is attempting to reach the Department of Labor to resolve the issue.
- A landlord and tenant got into an argument on Earl Avenue on Feb. 12. A woman told police that her landlord startled her when she was screaming and pounding the back door of her apartment. The woman said her landlord, who was highly intoxicated, police said, was yelling that she needed to leave the apartment immediately because her rent was not up to date. Police advised the landlord to stay away from the tenant.
- Police responded to Earl Avenue for a report of a missing package. A woman said her landlord took a package of hers that was delivered. The package was delivered and in front of the residence. The incident happened Feb. 13.
- A cat got stuck in a recliner on Maple Avenue, and police responded to help it. An officer found a cat stuck in the bottom of an electric reclining chair. The cat was dead by the time police arrived. The caller agreed to allow police to dispose of the cat.
- A woman on Feb. 13 reported potential identity theft. She told police she received a New York state unemployment inquiry even though she did not apply for one. The woman said she didn't lose any money and hasn't been advised of any unauthorized charges or withdrawals. The woman's company is attempting to reach the Department of Labor to resolve the issue.
