Northport Police Blotter: 'Disturbing Phone Scam' Going Around

A man showed police photos he received that depicted dead bodies as well as a text with his name and previous address, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from May 24 through May 30.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A salesman from Proof Pest Control was soliciting door-to-door on Dolphin Lane on May 24. Police told him a permit was needed. The salesman didn't know and said he would no longer solicit in the area.
  • Someone left the scene of a motor vehicle crash on Main Street around 7:30 p.m. May 24, police said.
  • A man went to police headquarters on May 25 to report disturbing images that were texted to his cell phone. The images showed dead bodies along with his name and previous address. A video was also sent to him that demanded money. Police told the man that it is an ongoing phone scam when visiting female escort websites. The man was advised to block the number and stay off the website. Police told him to report back if he was contacted again.
  • A man's front license plate was stolen off his car, but he doesn't know by who. A larceny affidavit was completed on May 26.
  • A man on May 27 reported someone removed a small maple tree from his front garden on Main Street.
  • A woman on Burt Avenue on May 28 reported items were being taken and then returned at her home. She said people are entering her house and stealing things before returning them. She told police her apartment was locked and secure. Police did not see any apparent damage to the apartment, and no other items were disturbed or damaged.
  • A man was reportedly being loud and disruptive at Rockin' Fish on May 28. He was told he needed to leave, so he went home in a taxi.
  • Someone found a man's dog along Fort Salonga Road on May 29. The dog's owner picked it up.
  • A sunken vessel was found on its mooring in Northport Harbor on May 29.
  • A dead deer was found on Waterside Avenue on May 29. Northport Village Highway Department was notified.
  • A Franklin Street resident was asked to lower loud music around 9:30 p.m. on May 29.
