Northport Police Blotter: Drunken Driver Arrested
ALSO: More unemployment scams were reported, police say.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from March 22 through March 28.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- Christopher Weaver, 41, of Northport, was driving a 2019 Honda northbound on Douglas Avenue when police said Weaver did not signal when making a right turn onto Highland Avenue around 12:15 a.m. March 26. An officer stopped Weaver, whose breath smelled of alcohol, his eyes were glassy and bloodshot, his speech was slurred, he was very unsteady on his feet
and he performed poorly on several standardized field sobriety tests, police said. Weaver was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, DWI: BAC reading, failed to signal a turn and no/expired inspection certificate.
Incidents
- A man was blowing debris onto his Fort Salonga Road neighbor's property on March 22. He told police he was blowing out his parking lot. Police told him not to blow debris onto the adjacent driveway, to which he agreed.
- A man was struggling to safely back out of a parking space on Union Place on March 22. Police spoke with the driver, who is known to the department. The driver was having some cognitive issues, police said. Officers brought the man to his home and explained to him that it might not be safe for him to drive his car in the future. The manr refused further help.
- A woman on March 22 reported a fraudulent unemployment benefits claim made in her name. She said she received letters at her home stating she was qualified for benefits despite her never filing. She has suffered no monetary loss at the time of the report.
- A man on March 24 reported a fraudulent unemployment benefits claim made in his name. His employer notified him they received notice for a request for unemployment benefits filed in his name. He has suffered no monetary loss at the time of the report.
- A woman on March 25 reported that her Earl Avenue landlord is harassing her with letters. Police said they observed no harassment in the letters. Both were advised to avoid contact with one another until the woman moves out.
- A man on March 27 reported an attempted identity theft through New York state unemployment benefits. He told police he received a letter that an attempt was made but denied due to possible fraud. He has suffered no monetary loss at the time of the report.
- Police were flagged down on Main Street for a car crash that happened around 8:20 p.m. March 27. A man told police he struck the vehicle next to him while pulling out of a parking lot. There was minor paint transfer but no damage to either vehicle, police said.
- A chimney fire on Madison Street was doused by the Northport Fire Department on March 27.
