Northport Police Blotter: Drunken Driver Nearly Hits Other Car
The driver swerved into oncoming traffic and nearly collided with another driver, police say.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from May 17 through May 23.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- Police responded to Edgaret Place on May 17 for a report of a woman yelling at the caller. The woman who called told police that the other woman was yelling at her about her dog and why she allows her kids to ride their bikes in the street. No violations were seen by police.
- Two men got into a fight at Giunta's Shopping Center on May 19.
- A man urinated in public on Fort Salonga Road on May 19, but he was gone by the time police arrived.
- Police responded to Sabia's Car Care on May 20 to settle an argument. The caller said that a man was blowing dirt from his driveway into his driveway. Police told the man to be more aware of where he is blowing dirt, to which he agreed.
- Around 8:50 p.m. May 20, police saw a vehicle stopped at the intersection of Main Street and Ocean Avenue with the driver appearing to be asleep. Police watched the vehicle head westbound on Main Street slowly, impeding traffic. Police stopped the vehicle and interviewed the driver, who said he had been driving since that morning and was extremely tired but did not drink any alcohol or use any drugs. The man did not show any signs of being drunk when police administered field sobriety tests. The driver refused medical attention, parked his vehicle and got a taxi to a hotel to sleep for the night.
- A woman on May 21 reported an email that possibly came from her credit card company. The email contained a PDF of her bill stating that she had a large outstanding balance. She and Mastercard confirmed that no balance is owed. The company was advised to hold any unauthorized charges.
- Police responded to Rockin' Fish on May 23 for a report of a customer acting "erratically." The man was not at the restaurant when police arrived. The business owner and employees told police that a man was causing a disturbance because he was upset he was not provided with take-out utensils and condiments, which are usually only provided when requested. The employees said the man was possibly drunk and would not leave the restaurant after he was given the utensils and condiments. The man eventually left, and the business staff provided a physical description of the man to police. Police could not find the man in the area. The staff was told to call police if the man returned.
- A man was yelling and causing a disturbance on Laurel Avenue around 9:10 p.m. May 23. The man agreed to leave once police arrived.
