Northport Police Blotter: Drunken Man Drives Into Telephone Pole
ALSO: Several chickens get loose, and a dispute over the wrong shoe size breaks out at a store, police say.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Oct. 26 through Nov. 1.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- Sean Hatch, 37, of East Northport, drove his car into a telephone pole on Georgia Street around 11:30 p.m. Oct. 31, police said. Hatch's breath smelled of alcohol, his eyes were glassy and bloodshot, his speech was slurred and sluggish, and he was very unsteady on his feet, failing several field sobriety tests, police said. Hatch was arrested and charged with DWI, DWI: BAC reading, improper lane use, and unlawfully driving on or across sidewalk.
Incidents
- A man who fell and injured himself at Giunta's Meat Farm was taken to Huntington Hospital by Northport Rescue on Oct. 26.
- A flag mounted on the side fence of a Norwood Avenue home went missing; the incident was reported to police on Oct. 27. The man said he saw his flag was missing on Oct. 22. He said he's unsure what happened to the flag and wanted the incident documented for informational purposes.
- A man reportedly refused to leave a shoe store on Oct. 28 after he was sold the wrong-sized shoes and wanted his money back. Police told the man that this was a civil manner and would have to take the matter to Small Claims Court. The man was satisfied after the clerk agreed to give him a different pair of shoes.
- Several chickens got loose on Milland Drive on Oct. 28. Police told the caller to reach out to Animal Control.
- Police responded to June Avenue for a reported sick raccoon on Oct. 30. The animal appeared healthy and ran off when the officer arrived.
- A summons was issued to a vehicle blocking traffic on Milland Drive on Oct. 30.
- An officer patrolling Elwood Road saw a political sign of a derogatory nature posted on a telephone pole that violated Northport Village code. The sign was removed and disposed of on Oct. 31.
- A sick raccoon was found in a Scudder Avenue garage on Oct. 31. The animal was euthanized by police and disposed of.
- A sick raccoon was reported in the road of Doris Avenue on Oct. 31. The raccoon scurried off by the time officers arrived.
- A sick raccoon was reported in the back yard of a Maple Avenue home on Oct. 31. An officer put down the raccoon and disposed of it.
- A Razor motor scooter missing a battery was found on Terry Road on Oct. 31. Police took the scooter back to headquarters and placed it in the temporary bin.
- A male was reported to climb the fence of Lewis Oliver Dairy on Oct. 31. An employee saw a male between 5 feet 2 inches and 5 feet 4 inches trying to enter the farm property by climbing the fence. An employee confronted the person, who drove off in a green Hyundai Sonota in an unknown direction, according to police.
- Suspicious lights were reported to be flashing inside a Mar Kan Drive home at 2:20 a.m. Nov. 1. Police spoke with a resident, who said the lights were part of a Halloween decoration. The resident agreed to turn off the lights.
- An iPhone forgotten at Northport Sweet Shop more than two weeks ago was handed over to police on Nov. 1.
- Two Scudder Place neighbors were having an argument on Nov. 1. The caller said his neighbor was yelling at him because of where he placed the garbage and bags of leaves. According to the caller, he was asked by the garbage men on the truck to place the garbage on the right side of his property to assist in picking up the garbage. The neighbor was advised of this and said he wouldn't talk with his neighbor.
