Northport Police Blotter: Man Exercised In School Parking Lot

The man was exercising in the lot multiple times, and he was trying to make conversation with teachers and students, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from April 26 through May 2.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Police responded to Lewis Oliver Farm Sanctuary on April 26 for a report of an email sent by unknown people, possibly ex-volunteers to the manager of the farm. The caller told police that the email is falsely representing the farm and how it is being run. The caller also said the email and a website were sent to multiple people, including donors to the farm.
  • An attempted direct deposit fraud was attempted on April 27. A woman told police she was contacted by her employer, who asked her if she was trying to change accounts on her direct deposit because the employer had received paperwork trying to have her checks go to a new bank. She told police she did not request the change. The woman did not suffer any financial loss at the time of her report.
  • A man was seen on three separate occasions in the parking lot of Weekday Nursery School, and police visited the school on April 27. The man was seen exercising and trying to make conversation with teachers and students during school hours, police said. Teachers felt uncomfortable with the man's behavior. Police said they would drive through the parking lot throughout the day and told the school to call if he returns. Around 1:40 p.m. April 28, police spoke with the man and told him to stop exercising in the parking lot during school hours and to stay out of the administration portion of the building. The man said he uses the path behind the church to walk home but will no longer exercise in the parking lot.
  • A woman reported an identity fraud attempt on April 28. She told police she received a New York state unemployment benefits claim in the mail even though she never applied for one. The woman did not suffer any financial loss at the time of her report.
  • A derelict boat was found in Northport Bay between Asharoken and Eatons Neck on April 29.
  • Police were called to Village Park on April 29 for a report of men harassing an older man in the park. The men told police there was no issue. One of the men had been interviewed by police multiple times over the past week regarding calls about his erratic behavior and exercise routines, police said. He said he would go home without any further incident.
  • A sick raccoon was euthanized on Fort Salonga Road by police and disposed of on April 30.
  • A man was working out and talking to himself in the parking lot near a school on Main Street on April 30, police said. Officers told the man he was not allowed to work out in the lot near the school, and he agreed to leave.
  • A woman on April 30 reported that someone opened a checking account at TD Bank under her name. She received checks in the mail with a new account that listed her as the account holder. The account was closed, and her other account was frozen. The woman did not suffer any financial loss at the time of her report.
  • A man suffered a possible cardiac emergency in Municipal Lot #1 of the village park on May 1. Northport Rescue brought him to Huntington Hospital.
  • An officer saw a broken front window at Chase Bank on May 2.
  • Possible gunshots were heard on Cozy Lane around 10:20 p.m. May 2. Police searched the area and found it to be all quiet.
