Northport Police Blotter: Man's Front License Plate Nabbed

ALSO: A fence was believed to be knocked over by a bobcat. However, it turned out to be a man, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from May 10 through May 16.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A woman on May 10 reported a false unemployment claim. She received a New York state unemployment benefits claim in the mail even though she did not apply for one, she told police. At the time of the report, she had suffered no financial loss, nor were any unauthorized charges or withdrawals made from her accounts.
  • Police responded to Sabia's Car Care on May 13 for a report of a fence being knocked over by a bobcat. Police interviewed a man who said he accidentally knocked down a portion of the caller's fence while scraping the parking lot. The man agreed to pay for the damages, which satisfied the caller.
  • Someone on Main Street reported that someone else removed a small maple tree from his front garden. The man wanted the incident, which was reported May 13, documented for information purposes.
  • Someone stole a man's front license plate. The theft was reported on May 14.
  • A man was reportedly soliciting on Scudder Place on May 14. Police told him he needs a village permit to solicit in Northport.
  • A woman suffered injuries on May 15 after tripping on the concrete sidewalk entrance to Municipal Lot #4 on Main Street. Photos were taken and uploaded of the area she believes she tripped on. Northport Rescue brought her to Huntington Hospital.
  • A boat trailer parked on the road on Cherry Street with no registration was issued a summons by police on May 16.
