Northport Police Blotter: Police Break Up Fight Between Youths

Someone pretended to represent Publishers Clearing House and tried to scam a woman, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from May 3 through May 9.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A woman on May 3 reported a false unemployment claim to police. She said she received a NYS unemployment benefits claim in the mail even though she didn't apply for one. At the time of her report, she has not lost any money, nor were any unauthorized charges made to her accounts.
  • A jacket found hanging on a pole on Main Street on May 3 was placed in the Northport Police Department's temporary bin.
  • A woman on May 4 reported a false unemployment claim to police. She said she received a NYS unemployment benefits claim in the mail even though she didn't apply for one. At the time of her report, she has not lost any money, nor were any unauthorized charges made to her accounts.
  • Police removed a car tire from Northport Harbor on May 6 after someone had thrown it in there.
  • A woman on May 6 reported a scam regarding someone claiming to be from Publishers Clearing House. Someone called her and claimed to be from Publishers Clearing House. The caller told her that in order to receive the prize money, she had to transfer $1,495. She did not sustain any financial loss.
  • A purple Polaris helmet found at Village Park was turned into police headquarters on May 7.
  • A group of youths was fighting at Village Park on May 7. An officer spoke with the youths, who said they punched each other and were no longer fighting. Police made them call their parents to pick them up. The group was warned and released to their parents.
  • A loud party was reported on Laurel Avenue around 1:25 a.m. May 8. Police spoke with the tenant, who agreed to keep the noise down.
  • A vehicle was blocking a driveway on Main Street on May 8. A parking summons was issued to the vehicle.
