Northport Police Blotter: Woman Drives Into Officer During Chase
The woman drove into the officer's leg, backed into his police cruiser, and forced pedestrians to dodge her car, police say.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Jan. 4 through Jan. 10.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- Stephen Paez, 24, of College Point, was seen by an officer driving a 2006 Acura near Main Street with tinted windows and no front license plate at 12:17 p.m. Jan. 5, police said. The officer pulled over Paez and smelled marijuana coming from the car, police said. An eJustice check found Paez had a suspended license, and his car was not registered in New York or New Jersey, police said. The officer found a clear bag containing a green leaf-like substance believed to be marijuana in the center console, police said. When searching Paez, police said they found a clear plastic baggy containing a white powder that turned out to be cocaine. Paez was arrested and charged with operate motor vehicle by unlicensed driver, operating unregistered motor vehicle on highway, no/expired inspection certificate, equipment: tinted side-wing windows, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana, third-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation.
- Jayne Schwarz, 54, of Northport, took her parents' 2005 Mercedes sedan without permission and was found with the engine running on Woodbine Avenue at 5:52 p.m. Jan. 7, police said. An officer parked their car behind the Mercedes and put his emergency lights on, police said. The officer was walking over to the driver's side window of the Mercedes when Schwarz backed into the officer's car, police said. The officer ran to the driver's window, banged on it and yelled at Schwarz to stop her car, police said. She put her car into drive, turned the wheel left and drove into the officer, striking him in his right thigh, police said. Schwarz drove away northbound on Woodbine and barely avoided a traffic collision, with the officer following her, police said. Schwarz sped along westbound on Scudder Avenue, narrowly avoiding multiple crashes with opposing traffic, police said. She then stopped her car in the middle of Larkfield Road, put it into reverse, and again backed into the officer's patrol car, police said. Schwarz then accelerated away and turned into the Hewitt Square parking lot, forcing pedestrians to run and jump out of the way in order to not get hit by the car, police said. Schwarz then parked her car, and the officer removed her keys from the ignition and took her out of the car, police said. Schwarz was arrested and charged with unreasonable speed, passed a red traffic signal light, failed to stop at a stop sign, attempt aggravated assault upon a police officer, second-degree attempted assault: intentional physical injury, second-degree criminal mischief, third-degree unlawful fleeing police officer, unsafe passing, reckless driving, unsafe backing, fail to comply with lawful order of the police, overtaking vehicle on the left, and speeding: posted zone.
Incidents
- Northport police helped Suffolk police with a car crash on Fort Salonga Road at 6:35 p.m. Jan. 5.
- A basketball hoop was pushed over to the ground on Printing House Circle sometime between 1 and 6 p.m. Jan. 6. The hoop's owner thinks it was pushed over because it had a political sign on it.
- Police went to someone's Main Street home to deliver a trespass affidavit on behalf of The Wine Cellar On Main on Jan. 6. The man was told he could no longer go to the business.
- Police went to someone's Woodbine Avenue home to deliver a trespass affidavit on behalf of Salted. On The Harbor on Jan. 6. The man was told he could no longer go to the business.
- A black Chrysler drove into a building on Fort Salonga Road at around 7 p.m. Jan. 8. The driver was exiting the back parking lot when they hit the building and drove off eastbound on Fort Salonga Road. Police said the vehicle's passenger-side front tire struck the side of the building, leaving tire marks. There was no structural damage to the building. Police could not find the driver.
- A group of kids was banging on front doors on Woodbine Avenue at 8:30 p.m. Jan. 8. They were warned and admonished by police.
- Police responded to Steers Avenue for a report of a man yelling and hitting things in his house at around 2:30 p.m. Jan. 10. The man told police he locked himself in his bathroom and had to break down the door. The damage to the door was consistent with his story, police said.
- A teenager was reportedly climbing down to the sand at the end of Main Street at 2:35 p.m. Jan. 10. The girl said she dropped her water bottle and was climbing down to recover it. She was warned and admonished by police.
