Robert L. Kreiling, 89, an Original Member of Eaton's Neck Fire Company

Robert L. Kreiling passed away Saturday.

Robert L. Kreiling, 89, of Phoenix, Arizona and Charleston, S.C., formerly from Eaton’s Neck, Northport, N.Y. died November 14, 2015.

He was one of the original members of the Eaton’s Neck Fire Company, with their Model A and 1932 Fire Trucks. As a member of the Fire Commissioner’s Board, he was instrumental in raising the Department’s present good standing status, thus obtaining an insurance rating which reduced the Property Insurance premiums for all Homeowners in the District.

He graduated from High School in June, 1943 and enlisted at that time in the U.S. Army serving in the Southwest Pacific. Honorably Discharged, he enlisted as an Active Reservist in the 101st Cavalry, rising to the rank of Captain, Tank Company Commander. Mr. Kreiling’s civilian career was primarily in the field of Corporate Insurance, having worked many years with Republic Aviation as a Safety/Insurance supervisor, Gulf+Western, as an Insurance Supervisor, Eastern Airlines, Director, Insurance and as a General Manager, Insurance/Claims with Texaco, Inc. traveling far and extensively, in those positions.

Upon retiring from the Active Army Reserve, he became a member of the American Legion and in 1982 enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, serving at the Eaton’s Neck C.G. station for two terms as Flotilla Commander.

He actively engaged in Patrols, Membership, Training, Operations, Qualification Examinations and Communications. Relocating to the Charleston C.G. Auxiliary, he served two more terms as Flotilla Commander, continuing similar duties.

In 2012 they moved to Phoenix, Arizona. He is predeceased by his wife of 39 years, Ellen C. Kreiling and older brother, William. He is survived by his daughter, Dorian of Phoenix, AZ, sons, Mark of North Dakota and William of Gettysburg, PA. Services are pending.
