Snow Total Estimates Rise For Long Island

Good news for snow lovers.

LONG ISLAND, NY – Well, now things are starting to get interesting. The National Weather Service has bumped up predicted snow totals for Long Island on Saturday. A forecast for less than an inch as of Wednesday night is now up to 1-2 inches.

Snow is expected to begin Saturday afternoon before mixing with and then changing to all rain in the evening.

The full forecast:

Thursday- Partly sunny, with a temperature rising to near 51 by noon, then falling to around 45 during the remainder of the day. Windy, with a northwest wind 20 to 26 mph, with gusts as high as 44 mph.

Thursday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 22. Wind chill values between 10 and 20. Blustery, with a northwest wind 20 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 39 mph.

Friday- Sunny, with a high near 29. Wind chill values between 5 and 15. North wind 14 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.

Friday Night- Increasing clouds, with a low around 19. Wind chill values between 10 and 15. North wind 5 to 11 mph.

Saturday- Snow, mainly after noon. High near 37. Light and variable wind becoming south 9 to 14 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Saturday Night-Rain, mainly before 2am. Temperature rising to around 41 by 11pm. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Sunday-Mostly sunny, with a high near 41. Breezy.

Sunday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 24.

Monday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 31.

Monday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 21.
