The Town of Huntington is making sure you have no more excuses for getting a sunburn.

Ever get a sunburn while hanging at Crab Meadow Beach? Well, the Town of Huntington is looking to prevent that from happening.

The Town’s first free sunscreen pilot program is set to place a sunscreen dispenser filled with organic SPF 30 sunscreen at Crab Meadow Beach.

“The importance of sunscreen is crucial and I’m hopeful that residents will take advantage of the free sunscreen now offered by the Town,” said Councilwoman Susan A. Berland, who is sponsoring the program.

The sunscreen dispenser is being purchased from the Melanoma Foundation of New England, a nonprofit that looks to prevent and detect melanoma it through the Practice Safe Skin: Skin Cancer Prevention Project.

According to the American Cancer Society, more than 10,000 people will die from melanoma in 2016.

If this program is well received, the Town will place sunscreen dispensers at each of their beaches, Berland says. “I look forward to hearing from our residents about their views on this pilot program.”
