Arc Rockland Purchases Homes in Nyack, Stony Point

One of the homes, a two story house in the center of Nyack, will be home to six individuals, each of whom will have a private bedroom.

From The Arc Rockland: Moving forward in its commitment to provide increased housing opportunities for people with developmental disabilities, The Arc Rockland recently finalized the purchase of two homes in Rockland County which, together, will welcome 10 men and women.

One of the homes, a two story house in the center of Nyack, will be home to six individuals, each of whom will have a private bedroom. “These are people who currently live in shared apartments in Nyack, but need more space. They love the village, patronize its shops and restaurants and don’t want to move away. This beautiful home, with hardwood floors, updated kitchen and bathroom and a convenient location close to all the town’s amenities, is a perfect fit,” notes Dr. Steven Rubinsky, Chief Administrative Officer of The Arc.

The second purchase, a modern ranch-style house in Stony Point, will be home to four individuals returning from upstate or out-of-state schools. “The house is in a lovely, quiet suburban setting, with easy access to and from the town,” says Mr. Rubinsky. “The single-floor layout is also suitable for individuals with physical limitations and mobility issues.”

“We have been embraced by both municipalities, and we have tremendous respect for the sensitivity they have shown toward people with disabilities,” notes Dr. Rubinsky. “The opening of these two new homes is a testament to the partnership between our agency and the forward-looking community leaders.”

According to Rachel Shemesh, Arc’s Managing Director of Residential Services, “both homes are expected to be fully occupied by the end of this coming summer. By that point, we will be providing housing for more than 200 men and women living in several dozen residences throughout Rockland County.”
