June 1 End Date for Solarize Ossining-Briarcliff and Cortlandt-Croton
Solarize program deadlines approach
In less than two weeks, the “sun will set” on the opportunity for homeowners in Ossining, Briarcliff Manor, Croton-on-Hudson and the Town of Cortlandt to benefit from the discounted group rates of the Solarize Ossining-Briarcliff and Solarize Cortlandt-Croton programs. Homeowners who want to save on their electric bills and generate their own clean energy from the sun have only until June 1 to sign a contract for a solar system under this municipally-supported, time-limited program, which offers group rates significantly below market prices for high quality installations from a pre-vetted, competitively selected solar installer.
Benny Linneman of Ossining, who has signed a solar contract with Ross Solar Group, the selected installer for Solarize Ossining-Briarcliff, said, “It seemed an opportune time, given high energy costs and incentives from the state and federal level to go solar— it makes economic sense. And from a global and community perspective, utilizing the sun to generate power is where we need to go. I was also very impressed by Ross Solar—very knowledgeable, very open and helpful about the process and what it would involve.”
Federal tax credits, state tax credits and incentives, and the low Solarize pricing mean this is an optimal time for people to install solar. Solar electric systems provide the opportunity to lock in low cost energy produced over the expected life of the system (at least 25 years). In addition, while solar systems increase the value of homes by an average of $4/watt (according to a recent study from the Department of Energy,), thanks to New York State policies designed to encourage the installation of solar, there is a 15-year moratorium on increased tax assessments related to solar installations.
