Cold Spring Harbor Kayak Cruise Planned

OYSTER BAY, NY — Friends of the Bay and The WaterFront Center are teaming up for the second year on Kayak Conservation Cruises with the first of three scheduled for May 15 in Cold Spring Harbor.

The rain date for the event, which will run from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., is May 16.

Kayaks will launch from the Village of Laurel Hollow Beach, where there is parking available, at about 9 a.m. for a two-hour guided tour led by Breann Ross, a naturalist from The WaterFront Center, and Bill Bleyer, author, historian and president of Friends of the Bay.

The fee for the cruise, which is tax-deductible, for those with their own kayaks is $20 per adult and $10 for children under 15. For those without their own kayaks, special event pricing is available at $55 for a single-seat kayak rental and participation fee, and $65 for a double-seat kayak.

The number of spots for the cruise will be limited due to COVID-19 restrictions and every kayaker must wear a mask on shore, according to organizers. To avoid social distancing issues, kayakers can arrive between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. to sign in and get on the water, organizers said.

A paddle, which has been donated by West Marine, will also be raffled off at the event.

Proceeds raised at the event will be split between the two organizations to support their respective outreach programs.
