The First Annual Long Island Run & Dog Walk is coming to Long Island.

Beyond the excitement that a public event is inviting dogs to attend, the run and walk will benefit veterans with disabilities.

The Long Island Run & Dog Walk will be held at Old Bethpage Village Restoration and The Museum of American Armor on Saturday, Aug. 22.

The event was announced last week by Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano, County Legislator Dennis Dunne and CEO of America’s VetDogs Wells Jones.

All proceeds will benefit the assistance dog programs of America’s VetDogs.

“It takes thousands of dollars to breed, raise, train, and place one assistance dog, but America’s VetDogs provides their services completely free of charge to the individual,” Mangano said.

Race day registration begins at 7:15 a.m. and staggered races times will start at 8:30 and 8:40 a.m. All dogs must be leashed.

Pre-race registration will be available through Thursday, Aug. 20.

The registration fee for students, veterans and active duty service members is $25 and registration for everyone else is $30.
