The Latest On New Year's Eve Weekend Snow Threat

The National Weather Service has released its first snow total predictions.

There's still a chance for a developing coastal storm to bring heavy snow to Long Island Saturday, but the National Weather Service says the odds of a major snowstorm have diminished from earlier forecasts.

Measurable snowfall remains a good possibility across much of the area, but the island is likely to see "at most a few inches."

Check out the current odds for various snowfall amounts across the island below. The other weather story is an extended stretch of frigid cold with wind chill temperatures expected to drop to as low as 10 degrees below zero early Thursday. If you will be outside on New Year's Eve Sunday, bundle up. The temperature when the ball drops will be near 14 degrees with a wind chill temperature around zero.
