LIRR Announces Alcohol Ban, Extra Trains for St. Patrick's Day Travel

Additional trains to supplement LIRR's regular schedule.

The MTA has scheduled 16 extra trains for Long Island Rail Road customers traveling to and from the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York City on Tuesday, March 17.

Six westbound morning and 10 eastbound afternoon trains will be added to accommodate the thousands of extra anticipated riders. The additional trains will supplement the LIRR’s regular weekday schedule.

Additionally, alcoholic beverages will not be permitted on trains, platforms or at stations from 12:01 a.m., Tuesday, March 17 through 5 a.m., Wednesday, March 18. This is “in an effort to maintain orderly travel for customers,” according to the MTA’s website.

“Any alcoholic beverages found by MTA Police on trains, stations and platforms will be confiscated by MTA Police,” the website states.
