LIRR Experiencing Delays, Cancellations On Thanksgiving Eve
Amtrak switch trouble outside one of the East River Tunnels is causing a hellish Wednesday commute.

The Long Island Rail Road is experiencing residual delays and cancellations on Thanksgiving Eve, one of the busiest travel days of the year, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority as of 5:30 p.m.
According to the LIRR, eastbound commuters should expect delays and cancellations due to Amtrak switch trouble outside one of the East River Tunnels.
Westbound Long Island Rail Road service, which was suspended between Jamaica and Penn Station as well as between Woodside and Penn Station on the Port Washington Branch, has been restored.

The New York City Transit will be cross-honoring LIRR fares:
- On the 2 and 3 subway lines for service to Atlantic Terminal
- On the E subway at Jamaica Station and the 7 subway at Woodside for westbound service into Manhattan.
Thanksgiving weekend travel on the LIRR
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says it will operate on special schedules from Wednesday through Sunday to accommodate the demands of travelers on Thanksgiving weekend.

- Wednesday: Twelve extra afternoon eastbound trains will handle the rush of customers heading home early for the holiday weekend.
- Thursday: There will be six extra westbound trains and 11 extra eastbound trains in the afternoon to accommodate Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade travel.
- Friday: The LIRR will run a regular weekday schedule with tickets at off-peak fares.
- Saturday and Sunday: The LIRR will have an additional four morning westbound trains and six afternoon eastbound trains to meet the holiday season demand, which will continue every weekend until the end of December.
