Oyster Bay, NY -- Recently, students in kindergarten through sixth grade from the East Woods School put on a spectacular production of “My Son Pinocchio Jr.” in affiliation with Ovations Dance Academy. The students performed in a 10 a.m. showing as well as a 6:30 p.m. showing. In Disney's My Son Pinocchio JR., the classic tale of toy maker, Geppetto’s little wooden puppet is given new life. This new musical, which retells the classic Disney story from Geppetto’s perspective, features beloved classic songs such as “When You Wish upon a Star” and “I’ve Got No Strings.”
“The goal has always been to provide an educational curriculum that provides both a solid foundation in dance as well as the opportunity for individual growth.” said Orlando Peña, Drama Director at East Woods School. “I am always impressed with how well the kids read and memorize lines.” Peña, often referred to as “Artist-In-Residence,” brings over 20 years of performing arts education experience to East Woods, and is the founder and owner of Ovations Dance Academy in Bohemia.
According to the American Alliance for Theater and Education, the act of performing on stage can help students and youth recognize their potential for success and improve their confidence. East Woods School recognizes the importance of providing a well-rounded education containing science, technology, math, foreign languages, history, literature, athletics and the arts.
