Oyster Bay Coastal Cleanup was a Shore Success!

East Woods Does Their Part to Help Keep Our Shorelines Trash-Free

(East Woods School)

Oyster Bay, N.Y. — Recently, students from East Woods School in Oyster Bay took part in a coastal clean-up at Beekman Beach at Theodore Roosevelt Park and removed bags full of trash from the coastal grounds. Students and faculty met during the early hours of the day and walked the beach looking for trash to pick up and properly dispose of. Students each had heavy duty garbage bags and working gloves to assist them in their cleaning efforts.

In order to raise awareness to the pollution on the beach, students filled out a tally sheet of what they had collected. At the conclusion of the cleanup, students and staff spoke about what they collected from the beach and the impact trash pollution has on the environment and marine life. East Woods has been continuously contributing to cleaning local beaches annually—in both the fall and spring seasons—over the past fifteen years.

The strength of the East Woods School Community Service Program is unique in the many opportunities it gives East Woods students to volunteer and give back to their communities, teaching students the joy of helping and serving others.
