Town of Oyster Bay's 3rd Annual Polar Plunge is This Weekend

Hundreds of locals will be "Freezin' for a Reason" in Tobay waters.

Hundreds of locals will run, jump and dive into the chilly waters of Tobay Beach this weekend to raise funds for Special Olympics New York athletes.

It seems crazy, but participants in the 3rd Annual Town of Oyster Bay Polar Plunge will be “Freezin’ for a Reason” when they bravely dive into the ocean on Saturday, March 19.

“Many of our residents in the Town of Oyster Bay are used to seeing beautiful Tobay Beach in the middle of the summer, but this event provides an enjoyable and charitable reason to begin the beach season early,” Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto said in a press release.

Special Olympics Polar Plunges are held across the country each year to attract thousands of thrill seekers to participate in this exhilarating fundraising event.

Approximately 6,000 plungers and 15,000 spectators helped raise nearly $1 million statewide in 2015.

All funds raised will support Special Olympics New York’s programs and promote awareness of people living with intellectual disabilities in New York.
