9/11 Anniversary: Serve And Remember

This year there are many opportunities, and lots are family-friendly. You can also sign up as a group.

The 9/11: Serve + Remember event is an annual community-wide day of service dedicated to honoring the memory, through volunteer service, of those lost on Sept. 11, 2001.

Last year more than 1,000 people volunteered to address community needs and support local charities through Volunteer New York!

Don't have a lot of time? Participate in one of the donation drives. Organizations are collecting kids socks and underwear, diapers, even ties for veterans. And there's a blood drive too.

There are events this weekend and on Sept. 11.

You can help clean up a trail or a waterfront, prepare to be a helper in a disaster, create dog toys from old T-shirts, play bingo at the veterans' home, help a farm or choose from many other opportunities.

Help paint and restore the homes of seniors. Sort medical supplies to help those in need. Create literacy kits for Rockland Head Start programs.
