Bad Air, Possible Storms Kick Off Hudson Valley Work Week

Hazardous weather outlooks have been issued, as has a health advisory.

Monday kickstarts a hot and humid work week serving up summer's usual — air pollution and thunderstorms.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an air quality health advisory from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease.

The National Weather Service has issued hazardous weather outlooks for the lower and mid Hudson Valley.

There are slight chances of thunderstorms every day, but none will bring relief from the heat.

Some thunderstorms Monday afternoon may be capable of producing damaging winds. They're a possibility as a weak low pressure moves east of New England, a back door cold front in its wake approaches from the northeast, and passes through in the afternoon. Before the front passes through, temperatures should once again reach the lower 90s in New York City and rise well into the 80s most elsewhere.

There is a chance for showers and thunderstorms, with the best chances across the city and points south and west. A few storms may also be possible across the lower Hudson Valley and southern Connecticut.

The front will pass just south and west, and then return as a warm front on Tuesday, with more chances for showers and thunderstorms especially from the city north and west.
