Edward L. Valyou, affectionately known as “Eddie”, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 3rd at the age of 73. A longtime resident in Peekskill for over fifty years was in the loving care of Reverends Howard and Jeannette Phillips and family.

Edward became a familiar face to many as walking to the downtown area was part of his daily routine commute. One of his favorite stomping grounds being the Center Diner on Bank Street one would notice that Ed not only liked routines but enjoyed being around people. Eddy had quite a sociable demeanor. In fact, one could say he was the “unofficial mayor of Peekskill” with his gregarious charm, witty comebacks, and a friendly wave. Ed being no stranger to hard work was actively engaged in his own way. He was a fixture in many respects as he worked as a Recreation Aide at the City of Peekskill Kiley Building and volunteered with the Senior Nutrition Program; he was also a member of the Peekskill Presbyterian Church on South Street.

His presence will be missed by his circle of colleagues, friends, and the entire Phillips family. For those who knew Ed you could appreciate his sense of humor and dedication as an avid sports fan. No matter where you met Ed--on the boardwalk at Atlantic City, at the little Center Diner, at Church on South Street, the Senior Center on Nelson Avenue, or the Kiley Building on Main Street Peekskill-- you would be greeted with a smile and his infamous reply: “Go Mets!”. Now we say to you Eddie, Rest In Peace and we know that you’re cheering us on… indeed, until we meet again.
