You'll need your Social Security number, your filing status (single, married, etc.) and the amount of refund you are expecting as shown on your tax return.
You should be able to find the status 24 hours after e-filing your return. Filing status is updated daily, the agency said, usually overnight.
The IRS said it issues more than nine out of 10 refunds in fewer than 21 days.
It takes longer for the agency to process mailed documents, so if possible, your return should be filed electronically.
There are coronavirus-related mail processing delays; all mail is processed in the order in which it is received.
The IRS said you can receive your refund more quickly if you provide direct deposit information. It can be deposited into up to three accounts. Information on using direct deposit can be found here.
