Eastchester, Mount Kisco, Peekskill Cancel St. Patrick's Parades
They join Rockland County, Sleepy Hollow, White Plains, Yonkers and the Sound Shore.
WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — St. Patrick's Day parades scheduled for this month have been canceled or postponed. Parade committees and local government officials said they were acting out of a concern for their communities.
Guidance from the County and State Department of Health recommends all communities limit large gatherings.
- The parade committee in Eastchester has postponed its event. The new date is Sept. 20.
- Mount Kisco's parade has been canceled.
- The City of Peekskill's St. Patrick's Day Parade, originally scheduled for March 14, has been postponed until September.
- In Yonkers, the parade was scheduled for March 21. It, too, was canceled, but rescheduled for Sept. 19, according to the parade's website.
- Sleepy Hollow announced Wednesday afternoon that its parade set for Sunday, March 15 has been postponed until Sept. 20.
- In a posting on White Plains' city website, officials said the parade scheduled for Saturday will not go forward. The White Plains St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee will be meeting in the days ahead to discuss a future celebration.
- The Sound Shore St. Patrick's Day Parade, which was scheduled for March 22 in Mamaroneck, has been postponed. A new date is being decided and will be announced.
The cancellations come in the wake of the announcement that the state will impose a 1-mile radius containment area in New Rochelle to help hinder the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Young Israel of New Rochelle synagogue was used as the center point of the zone, because a congregant of the house of worship — a 50-year-old New Rochelle man — was the second person in the state to test positive for the virus.
