Field Library Hosts 'The Story Begins: Bringing Children’s Books to Life'

The Field Library will be partnering with SGITW to present 'The Story Begins: Bringing Children's Books to Life' on Mar. 18.

From The Field Library: The Field Library and Something Good in the World (SGITW) will be cosponsoring a special event featuring six award-winning children's book creators.

“The Story Begins: Bringing Children’s Books to Life” will take place at The Field Library at 4 Nelson Avenue, Peekskill, NY on Saturday, March 18 from 2 to 4 pm. This community event will feature an incredible group of talented and inspiring authors and illustrators: Ed Young, Nick Bruel, Pat Schories, Susanna Reich, Mark Siegel and Gary Golio.

All author/illustrators will talk about their books, their inspiration and how they bring their stories to life (each author will speak for about 20 minutes). They will also be available to autograph books and mingle. Books will be available for a suggested donation, and a portion of proceeds will benefit both The Field Library and Something Good in the World, a local, non-profit environmental education organization (for more information about SGITW, go to www.somethinggoodintheworld.org).

"This upcoming event came about when author Ed Young approached us to help create a community engagement event with local authors and illustrators where families get to know the authors who live in their own community,” said Barbara Sarbin, SGITW Director of Education. “We’re hoping this will become an annual event, bringing together the community and children's book writers and artists, with donations going to support local educational organizations.”

Caldecott Medalist Ed Young is the illustrator of more than 80 books for children (17 of which he has also written), including The Cat From Hunger Mountain, selected as a New York Times Best Illustrated Book of 2016.
