Metro-North Offers Early Trains For Hudson Valley Holiday Getaway

Here are details about the commuter railroad's whole Labor Day weekend schedule.

To help New Yorkers kick off a long Labor Day weekend, MTA railroads will provide extra service Friday, August 31. All MTA services will operate on special schedules on Labor Day, Monday, September 3. Details are below.

Metro-North Railroad

Friday, August 31, Metro-North will offer 17 extra afternoon trains departing Grand Central Terminal

between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., as well as an extra departure from Hoboken Terminal on the railroad’s Port Jervis Line.

To allow Metro-North to operate this special service, some late evening peak trains departing from Grand Central Terminal will be canceled or combined due to reduced ridership during this period.

For Metro-North’s West of Hudson customers, the 6:15 p.m. departure from Hoboken on the Port Jervis Line will not operate, and the 5:58 p.m. departure from Hoboken to Spring Valley on the Pascack Valley Line will not operate.

On Saturday, September 1, and Sunday, September 2, Metro-North will operate on a regular weekend schedule.


New York City Subways and Buses

The New York City Subway and New York City buses will operate on a Sunday schedule on Labor Day, Monday, September 3. As a reminder, some subway lines do not run on weekends, and customers are advised to allow additional travel time due to weekend work. The MTA and NYPD are working closely to ensure safe pedestrian flow at the J’Ouvert Parade and the West-Indian Day Parade.

Because of the J’ouvert Parade on Monday, September 3, from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Brooklyn, the Church Av station will be closed and trains will bypass in both directions from 12 midnight to 8 a.m. on Monday, September 3. As an alternative, use the nearby Beverly Rd or Winthrop St stations instead. Buses in the area will be rerouted. The following bus routes in the parade area may be subject to delays and reroutes: B12, B14, B17, B41, B43, B44, B44 SBS, B45, B46, B46 SBS, B48, B49, B67 and B69.

Because of the West Indian-American Day Parade on Monday, September 3, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. along Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, certain subway entrances in the parade area may be affected and buses in the parade area will be rerouted. The Eastern Parkway-Brooklyn Museum station will be closed and bypassed from 12 noon to 7 p.m. Monday, September 3. As an alternative, customers are advised to use the nearby Grand Army Plaza or Franklin Av stations instead. At the Crown Hts-Utica Av station, certain staircases will be designated entrance/exit only. trains will make all local stops in Brooklyn. Buses that serve the area will be affected by reroutes, detours, and frozen zones. Customers should anticipate bus detours and delays on the following routes: B12, B14, B17, B41, B43, B44, B44 SBS, B45, B46, B46 SBS, B48, B49, B67 and B69.

In partnership with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the LaGuardia Link Q70 SBS

will be operated free of charge this weekend from 12:01 a.m.Friday, August 31, through 11:59 p.m. Monday, September 3. This is due to our continuing efforts to encourage the use of transit to and from the airport, and reduce roadway congestion at the airport during the busy holiday travel periods.

MTA Bridges and Tunnels

MTA Bridges and Tunnels will suspend all lane closures related to routine maintenance and temporary construction work beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 31, through the end of the morning rush on Tuesday, September 4, to accommodate motorists traveling for the Labor Day holiday weekend. Any extraordinary weather-critical work that must be accomplished over the holiday weekend would occur only during overnight hours when traffic is at its lightest.
