Null and Void Art Exhibit Opens at the Field Gallery in Peekskill

Peekskill artist Jordan Ricks is celebrated with a special opening and pop up shop Saturday, Sept 22, running through November 28, 2018.

On Saturday, September 22nd 2018, The Field Gallery is proud to present A Benign Indifference, an art exhibit and pop-up shop by Void and Null (Jordan Ricks) . This will be the first solo show for Ricks, a young Peekskill multi-media artist, graphic designer, and culture maker. Projects from the Void and Null online store will be available for purchase. Reception hours are from 1-4 pm with music and refreshments served.

Ricks' work, a combination of spray paint, collage, and drawing with sculpural elements, "is driven by an interest in using and responding to materials within my immediate surroundings, and is accessible," Ricks explains. " I try to reuse and repurpose what I have available to me and make a point to buy inexpensive material when I do make a purchase."

" I believe that art should always be accessible and approachable to makers and observers alike and I try to keep that in mind throughout the process of creating. Alongside my mixed media endeavors, I also operate my own online shop, Void And Null. Through the shop, I sell enamel pins, shirts, prints/posters and more. All of my sensibilities carry over from my mixed media work to my brand and the shop grows with my artistry and vision."

In A Benign Indifference, Ricks explores how "our desire for meaning, clarity, and significance is met by a cold, silent, indiferent universe. The philosophy of absurdism explores the fundamental nature of this dilemma and how best to navigate the conflict between our human tendency to seek and our human inability to pin down any concrete answers. A Benign Indifference is meant to explore visual language to emulates that relationship and recreate that tension between the viewer and the work while still presenting work that is inherently visually interesting."

Ricks is a mixed media artist and graphic designer in Peekskill NY. He is a founding member of PAUhaus (Peekskill Arts Unlimited), a new coalition to celebrate diverse perspectives in performing arts, fine arts and crafts.
