Parades and Ceremonies: Memorial Day 2019

Ceremonies, parades and historic re-enactments are scheduled throughout the holiday weekend throughout the Hudson Valley.

Ceremonies, parades and historic re-enactments are scheduled throughout the region.

May 27

Ardsley: 10 a.m. Ardsley Memorial Day ceremony and parade, sponsored by American Legion Post #458. Pascone Park. Parade goes from Park Avenue heading east on Ashford Avenue to Pascone Park. In case of inclement weather, ceremony will be held at Ardsley Firehouse at 10 a.m.

Brewster: VFW Post 672 hosts the annual parade. It kicks off at 11 a.m. from Brewster Fire House to the monument at Veterans Park (formerly Electrozone Field), where a ceremony will be held. Light lunch to follow at the Post on Peaceable Hill Road.

Croton-on-Hudson: The community remembers those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice on Monday, May 27 at 11 a.m. at Veterans Corner (Old Post Road South, Cleveland Drive and Radnor Avenue). Thomas Lepore, Stationary Engineer at the NYS Veteran's Nursing Home at Montrose, will be the keynote speaker. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place in the gym of Holy Name of Mary Church.

Elmsford: 10:30 a.m. Memorial Day Parade at Legion Park on East Main Street. It continues on Main Street to South Stone Avenue to Village Hall. Service begins at 11 a.m. 15 South Stone Avenue.

Fishkill: 1 p.m. Memorial Day Parade will go down Main Street with a ceremony at Veterans Memorial, corner of Broad and Main streets.

Hyde Park: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Hyde Park Education Foundation 2nd Annual Field of Honor Flag Display at FDR National Historic Site.

Hyde Park: 10 a.m. Parade starts at Roosevelt Theater and proceeds to Town Hall. A memorial service will be conducted by the American Legion immediately following the parade.

Mount Pleasant: The Gilbert Rauh American Legion Post will be hosting their Memorial Day Ceremony & Parade on Monday, May 27th beginning at 11am. There will be a ceremony at the monument at the Chamber of Commerce Building on Commerce Street at 11:15am. A parade will then proceed down Commerce Street and conclude at the American Legion Post at 52 Garrigan Avenue where refreshments will be served.

Mount Vernon: The day will be marked from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Paul’s Church, 897 South Columbus Ave., Mount Vernon. Ceremony begins at 11 a.m. with a wreath laying ceremony afterward, followed by walking tours of the historic cemeter. There will be a presentation at 2:30 p.m. on World War II.

Nanuet: A service at 11 a.m. will take place at the Veterans Monument near the train station. Hosted by American Legion Naurashank Post 974, Jewish War Veterans and Nanuet Fire Department.

New Castle: A parade will be preceded by a ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at the Victory Corners monument on the corner of King Street and Bedford Road. The parade will assemble at Ridgewood Terrace at 10:40 a.m. and step off at 11 a.m. from Ridgewood Terrace onto Bedford Road.

New City: A parade down Main Street sponsored by American Legion Post 1682 starts at Collyer Avenue at 10 a.m. and ends at the courthouse.

New Rochelle: 11 a.m. Memorial Day ceremony at Memorial Plaza, followed by a ceremony for those lost at sea at 12:30 p.m. at Hudson Park.

Nyack: Parade kicks off at 11 a.m. on Artropee Way and ends at Memorial Park where a ceremony will be held.

Ossining’s annual Memorial Day ceremony starts with a parade down Croton Avenue and Main Street at 9 a.m. May 27 The ceremony and wreath-laying will take place afterward at Nelson Park.

Pearl River: The parade begins at 10:15 a.m. on North Middletown Road. The marchers head south to East Central Avenue and then down East Central Avenue to Braunsdorf Park. Guest speaker is Pearl River resident Paul Crowe, a U.S. Army Combat Veteran who served in Vietnam. Event hosted by John H. Secor American Legion Post 329 of Pearl River.

Peekskill: Services at 10 a.m. at Monument Park, intersection of North Division Street and Highland Avenue.

Pleasantvlle’s Memorial Day observance will commence at 10 a.m. with a ceremony at the World War I Memorial located at the intersection of Bedford Road & Academy Street (Bedford Road School). A parade will then proceed down Bedford Road to Memorial Plaza and conclude in Memorial Plaza with the main memorial ceremony. No parking will be permitted in Memorial Plaza starting at 6 a.m. on Monday May 27th through the conclusion of the ceremonies. Temporary road closures and traffic disruptions should be anticipated on Bedford Road and Memorial Plaza.

Poughkeepsie: 11 a.m. Dutchess County War Memorial Ceremony. John K. Rinaldi Memorial Park, intersection of Raymond Avenue and Main Street in the Town of Poughkeepsie.

Rye: 9:30 a.m. Parade begins at the Rye train station and proceeds to the Village Green for ceremonies at 10 a.m.

Scarsdale: 9:15 a.m. A brief ceremony will be held before a parade begins at 9:30 a.m. Boniface Circle. Visit the Scarsdale American Legion Post 52 Memorial Garden afterward, located in front of the Scarsdale Pool Complex, where a number of monuments commemorate America's fallen heroes.

Spring Valley: At 1 p.m. in Memorial Park, the Spring Valley American Legion Mascarella Post #199 and the Village of Spring Valley will be hosting their annual Memorial Day observance. All residents of the village are invited to honor those that have served our country. There will be representatives of the U.S. Armed Forces in attendance, as well as the customary Posting and Retirement of the Military Colors. Music will be provided by the East Ramapo Marching Band and light refreshments will be served.

Stanfordville: 8 a.m. Memorial Day Parade, Ceremony & Historical Society Display at the Post Office.

Stony Point Battlefield: Participate in a Memorial Day commemoration for fallen soldiers from all wars with a presentation of an 18th century military ceremony to honor the dead, 2:30-3 p.m. It will be followed immediately by a 3 p.m. artillery demonstration. Stony Point Battlefield State Historic Site, 44 Battlefield Road, Stony Point.

Valhalla: 9:30 a.m. Parade begins in back of Valhalla Methodist Church, 200 Columbus Ave., and proceeds to the Village Green for memorial ceremony at 10 a.m. Refreshments will be served afterward.

Wappinger: 2 p.m. Memorial Day Ceremony at Brexel-Schlathaus Park, corner of All Angels Hill and Myers Corners roads.

West Nyack: The Nanuet-West Nyack Rotary's Memorial Day parade starts at noon, from Strawtown Road to West Nyack hamlet green.

White Plains: Step off for the parade is 10 a.m. on Church Street Between Main Street and Hamilton Avenue. It will proceed to the Rural Cemetery on North Broadway. The parade will be followed by memorial services and honors at the Soldiers and Sailor Monument at the cemetery.

Yorktown: 11 a.m. Service at Memorials located at Town Hall around Patriot Garden. 11:15 a.m. Parade - speeches and ceremony at John "Jack" DeVito Gazebo located at the Yorktown Community and Cultural Center.

May 29

Rockland County: Watchfires for the troops who didn’t return from war will be lit at midnight May 29 at the end of the Piermont Pier and burn for 24 hours at four locations: Bowline Point Park in Haverstraw, Eugene Levy Memorial Park on Route 45 in Pomona, the top of Clausland Mountain in Orangeburg, and the east end of the Piermont Pier.

May 30

Mamaroneck: 7 p.m. Parade starts at Mamaroneck Avenue School. Down the avenue into the village, a right onto Prospect Avenue and up the hill to American Legion Post #90, at 189 Prospect Avenue. Following the parade, a ceremony of remembrance for Mamaroneck's fallen.

Mount Kisco: The American Legion Post 136 holds its annual Memorial Day Parade at 6:30 p.m. May 30, starting at the corner of Smith Avenue and Main Street proceeding down Main Street to the War Memorial next to Village Hall where a ceremony will take place. American Legion will serve refreshments after the service. In case of rain, ceremony will be held inside the American Legion Building, 1 Legion Way at 6:30 p.m.

June 5

Wappingers Falls: The Department of Veterans Affairs Hudson Valley Health Care System (VA HVHCS) is hosting a “Ceremony of Remembrance and Final Roll Call at the Castle Point Campus Multi-Purpose room on Wednesday June 5 at 2:30 p.m.

The Ceremony of Remembrance & Final Roll Call is a service held to remember the deceased Veterans of VA HVHCS who have passed away in the last two years, and to provide comfort and support to the families of Veterans who have passed away.

June 6

Montrose: The Department of Veterans Affairs Hudson Valley Health Care System (VA HVHCS) is hosting a “Ceremony of Remembrance and Final Roll Call at the Montrose/FDR Campus Chapel on Thursday June 6, at 1 pm. All Veterans, Veteran Service Organizations, and families of Veterans wishing to participate are invited to attend the service.
