Peekskill High School Senior Dies In Drowning

PEEKSKILL, NY — The Peekskill City School District will be offering counseling or support in the wake of the death of a Peekskill High School senior.

Liony Polonia Santos, 17, died after drowning while swimming in the Delaware River in Sullivan County July 4, the Journal News reported.

The teen athlete disappeared in the water Sunday, and his body was found Wednesday.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family during this difficult time," a statement from the school district posted on its website.

Should anyone need support, the district's clinical team will be available Thursday until 5 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. The PCSK warm line, answered by school support staff, is also available from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. If in need of assistance regarding any urgent matter, call 914-522-0624.
