Peekskill Schools Returning To Virtual Learning In December
The district said students will continue to learn virtually until Jan. 4 at the earliest.
PEEKSKILL, NY — Peekskill City School District will transition to a remove-only learning model through the end of the holiday break.
The school district announced on Friday that students will return to virtual learning through Jan. 4, although it could be extended to Jan. 19 depending on the number of coronavirus cases in the coming weeks.
For hybrid Peekskill students in cohort A, only eight in-person days will become virtual. In cohort B, six days will go from in-person to virtual.

During the online learning period, the school will continue to offer grab-and-go meal pickup and delivery.
The school district made the decision to pivot to virtual learning after cases of the coronavirus were identified at Peakskill High School and Oakside Elementary. Contact tracing was completed and those exposed to the virus were notified.

Still, the school said it moved forward with its virtual learning program after Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday said the area, with a positivity rate of 7.3 percent, faces the possibility of returning to red and orange zone restrictions.
"As the Governor has stated, there is no predetermined result for our situation as we move forward, and what happens over the next few weeks will be a result of our own actions," Peekskill Superintendent David Mauricio said in a statement. "If we all do our part as a community, we can return to in-school learning."
