Plumbers & Steamfitters Union Seeks 19 Apprentices In The HV

PEEKSKILL, NY — The Plumbers & Steamfitters union is seeking 19 apprentices, and the window for applying is very small.

Local union No. 21, Zone 1 will conduct a recruitment from Feb. 16 through March 1 for interested residents of Dutchess, Putnam, Ulster and Westchester counties.

They're looking for 15 Plumber & Steamfitter apprentices and four Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanic apprentices.

Applications must be obtained in person at the union office in Peekskill, 1024 McKinley St., during the recruitment period, during the hours of 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Applications must be returned to the office in person by 3:30 p.m. March 1.

The Committee requires that applicants:

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED). Proof of transcript will be required at the time of enrollment in apprenticeship.
• Must reside (for at least six months prior to application) within the geographic jurisdiction of Local Union #21, which includes the counties of Dutchess, Putnam, Ulster, and Westchester.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from various job sites and required classes at the approved school.
• Must pass a substance abuse test, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.
• Must provide DD-214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, if applicable, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.

Applicants must pay a non-refundable $10.00 processing fee by cash or money order. Note: You may request that this fee be waived. Fee waivers will be approved upon showing verifiable proof of financial need.
