Police Conduct Speed Enforcement Detail In Cortlandt
Speeding is listed as a contributing factor in nearly a third of all fatal crashes in the state, police said.
CORTLANDT, NY — The state police Tuesday conducted a targeted speed enforcement detail in the Town of Cortlandt. The detail took place on Route 9.
The operation yielded 41 tickets, 36 of which were for speed-related offenses, police said.
State police said the operation was conducted in furtherance of its mission to ensure highway safety for all.

Speeding is listed as a contributing factor in nearly a third of all fatal crashes in the state, police said.
According to the Institute for Traffic Safety Management and Research at the University of Albany, in 2017, there were 301 people killed and 18,178 injured in speed-related crashes in the state.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that traffic crashes are the leading cause of death for people between the ages of of 3 and 33.
