State Police Help Putnam Sheriff's Deputies In Stolen Car Hunt

A Poughkeepsie man was arrested in Cortlandt.

CORTLANDT, NY — While helping the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office search for a stolen vehicle on Tuesday, New York State police arrested Derek Sloane, 55, of Poughkeepsie.

At 3:40 p.m., troopers in Westchester monitoring Putnam County 911 radio transmissions overheard the Putnam Sheriff’s Office investigating a complaint of a stolen 2017 Chevrolet Silverado.

Troopers patrolled to likely locations and located a suspect on Route 9 and Highland Avenue in Cortlandt. The suspect, later identified as Sloane, was taken into custody without further incident, police said.

He was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 3rd degree, a class D felony, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 2nd degree, an unclassified misdemeanor.

Sloane was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Cortlandt town court on Jan. 21 and turned over to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department for further investigation, police said.
