ALS 'Ice Bucket Challenge' Co-Creator Pat Quinn of Westchester Appears on 'GMA'
Yonkers resident Pat Quinn, who has been diagnosed with ALS, helped create the challenge with friends Pete and Julie Frates.

Pat Quinn of Yonkers, co-creator of the ALS ”Ice Bucket Challenge” phenomenon, appeared on ABC’s ”Good Morning America” Friday to help the anchors get wet for the charity.
The “Ice Bucket Challenge” was created to raise awareness and donations for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS. Someone challenges another person to pour a bucket of ice water over their head within a 24-hour period, or donate $100 to an ALS charity. So far, the challenge has helped raise more than $5.7 million to go toward finding a cure for the disease.
“The more people who get involved, the more money will be raised, the more research we can support,” Quinn told GMA. Quinn, who has been diagnosed with the disease, helped create the challenge with friend, Pete Frates, and Frates’ wife, Julie. Pete, a former Boston College baseball player, has the disease, also, and is not able to walk or speak.
