Klein was a member of the now-defunct Independent Democratic Conference.

PELHAM, NY — Incumbent state Sen. Jeffrey D. Klein lost his bid to be the Democratic candidate for the 34th Senate District to challenger Alessandra Biaggi Tuesday. According to unofficial results with 270 of 274 election districts reporting, Biaggi, a Pelham resident, received 53.11 percent of the vote compared to Klein's 44.48 percent.
Klein was one of a group of six Democratic state senators who were members of the now-defunct Independent Democratic Conference — which collaborated with Republicans — to lose a primary challenge this time around.
Only Senators David Carlucci of Rockland County and Diane Savino of Staten Island won their primary challenges.
