Lifeguards Wanted Around The Hudson Valley

It's not an easy position to fill. Find and post jobs on Pelham Patch.

PELHAM, NY — That classic summer job for teens and college students — lifeguarding at a local pool or beach — is apparently not the draw it once was.

A look on local municipalities' websites or on internet job sites shows that lifeguards are still wanted, even as summer has already begun and pools have opened on weekdays.

For example, Greenburgh recreation officials are looking for a lifeguard. Patch asked how it was going.

"Lifeguards are hard to find," said Town Supervisor Paul Feiner. "I spoke with Gerry Byrne, commissioner of parks. Part of the reason is low salaries. And, with unemployment low, students have many other opportunities to find jobs in the area. I haven’t had a problem finding interns—students are still very interested in working for the town during the summer months—have a good program going with good participation."
